In this scene we can see the suspected murderer Roxie Hart and her lawyer
Billy Flynn.
This episode is a fine and clever parody of legal
procedure. A famous defense lawyer teaches his client how to provide a testimony
without even thinking about the truth and he uses his client like a puppet in
order to succeed. I agree that Billy Flinn – the character portrayed by
Richard Gere – demonstrates an extremely high level of professionalism, since
the main objective of a defense lawyer is to convince the jury
and the public that the client is not guilty – or at least that his guilt is
minimal.
However, Billy Flinn evokes the feelings that are twofold – on the one hand, I
admire
his
professionalism but the techniques he uses to manipulate people seem to be
absolutely disgusting.
